How it works. The 50 coins with the most 24h perpetual futures volume on Binance, Bybit and Hyperliquid that trade against USDT on Binance spot, without Bitcoin itself. Each coin's return is its last completed UTC daily close over the close 90 days earlier; it beats Bitcoin when that is above BTCUSDT's return over the same days. The index is the share that beat BTC, from 0 to 100. We have no market-cap feed, so volume ranks the coins. The history uses today's list for every past day (survivorship bias). Not financial advice.

Altcoin season FAQ

What is the altcoin season index?

A number from 0 to 100: the percentage of the top 50 altcoins whose price rose more (or fell less) than Bitcoin's over the last 90 days. At 75 or above three in four altcoins are beating BTC, which is called altcoin season; at 25 or below Bitcoin is beating three in four altcoins, Bitcoin season. In between neither side dominates.

How is it calculated here?

We take the 50 coins with the most 24-hour perpetual futures volume across Binance, Bybit and Hyperliquid that have a Binance spot USDT market, leaving out Bitcoin, stablecoins and wrapped or pegged tokens. For each we compare the last completed UTC daily close with the close 90 days earlier on Binance spot, and count the coins whose return beat BTCUSDT's over the same days. There is no market-cap data behind it: perp volume stands in for size, so the list leans to actively traded coins.

Why are some coins left out?

A coin needs a daily close on Binance spot both yesterday and 90 days earlier, so anything listed less than 90 days ago is excluded; the table lists those coins and how much history they have. Stablecoins and wrapped, staked or pegged assets (WBTC, stETH, PAXG and the like) are never counted, because their price tracks another asset. Coins without a Binance spot USDT market are skipped.

How is the history chart built?

Each day's value repeats the calculation for that day, using the coins in today's top 50 that had 90 days of history then. Because the list is today's, coins that have since dropped out of the top 50 are missing from past values (survivorship bias), which can flatter past altcoin performance. The chart covers the last 365 days; the last-crossing dates use all the history available.

Does altcoin season predict prices?

No. The index describes what already happened over 90 days. Readings can stay at an extreme for months and flip quickly after a large Bitcoin move. Use it as context next to correlation, funding rates and open interest. Nothing here is financial advice.
