Bitcoin Profitable Days

Profitable days counts the past days on which buying Bitcoin at the daily close would be in profit at today's price: every day whose close is below the current price. The chart colours each day green (in profit) or red (at a loss) against today's price, the dashed line.

At $84,637 on 3 Oct 2026, buying Bitcoin at the daily close would be in profit today for 2,920 of the 3,334 days since 17 Aug 2017: 87.6%. Over the last 365 days the share is 66.6%. The share is highest near all-time highs and falls fast in drawdowns; it says nothing about the next move.

Counted over the daily closes (UTC) from 17 Aug 2017, where our price history starts; days before that are not included, so the share differs from charts that start in 2010. A close exactly at today's price does not count as in profit. The chart plots every 7th day to stay light; the CSV has every day. Not financial advice: these pages describe what each indicator showed in past cycles and predict nothing.

Profitable days FAQ

How are profitable days calculated?

We take every daily close (00:00 UTC) since our price history starts and count the days whose close is strictly below today's price. Buying at those closes would show a profit today, ignoring fees. The share is that count divided by all earlier days.

Why does the share differ from other sites?

Because of the start date. Our history starts in August 2017 (Binance), so the very cheap days of 2010–2016 are not counted, which makes the share lower than on charts that start in 2010. The 1, 2 and 4-year rows avoid that difference.

What does a high share mean?

That the price is close to or above most past prices, which happens near all-time highs. A low share means most past buyers are underwater. It describes the past; it does not predict the next move.

Where does the price data come from?

Daily closing prices (00:00 UTC) of Bitcoin from exchange public APIs: Binance spot BTCUSDT from 17 Aug 2017. Moving averages start once enough days of history have passed. The data refreshes every few hours, and today's close is the latest price so far. Each chart's data is free to download as CSV.

Is this a buy or sell signal?

No. These indicators describe how the price moved against its own averages in past cycles, and Bitcoin has had only a handful of cycles, so any pattern rests on very few examples. Nothing here is financial advice.
