Bitcoin 4 Year Moving Average

The 4-year moving average (4YMA) is the average Bitcoin closing price of the last 1,460 days, one full halving cycle. It is one of the slowest trend lines in use: the price has spent little time below it, mostly near bear-market lows. This page shows today's value, the price as a multiple of it and its distance in %, and how long the price has stayed on one side.

On 18 Oct 2026 Bitcoin's 4-year moving average is $64,744, and the price ($81,183) is 25.4% above it. It has closed above the average for 109 days in a row, since 2 Jul 2026. Since 15 Aug 2021 Bitcoin closed at or above its 4YMA on 85% of days.

4-year MA FAQ

How is the 4-year moving average calculated here?

As the simple average of the last 1,460 daily closes (4 × 365 days, UTC), updated every day. The line starts four years after the first close in our history; before that there is no reading.

Why four years?

Bitcoin's halvings come about every four years, and its past bull and bear markets have followed that rhythm, so a four-year average smooths out a whole cycle. It sits a little above the 200-week average (1,400 days), which has its own page.

What do the multiple and the distance mean?

The multiple is price ÷ 4YMA: 2.00× means the price is twice the average. The distance is the same thing as a percentage, multiple − 1. The streak counts the consecutive daily closes on the current side of the average, up to today. None of this predicts the price.

Where does the price data come from?

Daily closing prices (00:00 UTC) of Bitcoin from exchange public APIs: Binance spot BTCUSDT from 17 Aug 2017. Moving averages start once enough days of history have passed. The data refreshes every few hours, and today's close is the latest price so far. Each chart's data is free to download as CSV.

Is this a buy or sell signal?

No. These indicators describe how the price moved against its own averages in past cycles, and Bitcoin has had only a handful of cycles, so any pattern rests on very few examples. Nothing here is financial advice.
