Ethereum (ETH) volatility cone
Compare options-implied volatility with current realized volatility and its historical range at matching 7, 30 and 90-day horizons.
Historical endpoint window: 2025-10-26 through 2026-10-25 UTC (365 completed days). Current RV must end on 2026-10-25 UTC. Evaluated 2026-10-26 23:22:56 UTC. All volatility values are annualized percentages.
Spot source: Binance ETHUSDT daily candles. Latest completed daily close: 2026-10-25 UTC; cache fetched 2026-10-26 19:17:46 UTC. Today’s open candle is excluded.
7d RV: 365 valid endpoints, 2025-10-26 through 2026-10-25 UTC.
30d RV: 365 valid endpoints, 2025-10-26 through 2026-10-25 UTC.
90d RV: 365 valid endpoints, 2025-10-26 through 2026-10-25 UTC.

Horizontal axis: matching horizon in days. Lines join only available adjacent horizons; a missing tenor stays missing. P10/P90 mark the outer historical range and P25/P75 the middle range.

A dash means insufficient historical samples or unavailable IV. Each IV tenor needs an exact eligible expiry or two eligible expiries bracketing it at the same venue. There is no extrapolation or borrowing expiries from another venue.
Bybit options: eligible source observations 2026-10-26 23:18:42 UTC. 0 rows excluded for missing/invalid mark IV, strike or forward. Only unexpired options observed within 20 minutes, at most 60 seconds ahead, can contribute.
Binance options: eligible source observations 2026-10-26 23:18:34 UTC. 0 rows excluded for missing/invalid mark IV, strike or forward. Only unexpired options observed within 20 minutes, at most 60 seconds ahead, can contribute.
How to read the cone
Realized volatility is the sample standard deviation of contiguous daily log returns, ln(close / previous close), over 7, 30 or 90 returns, multiplied by √365. Windows crossing missing or invalid daily closes are excluded. Each historical distribution uses only endpoints in the stated 365-day UTC window.
Percentiles use the empirical nearest-rank convention: sort N observations and take the value at rank ceil(p × N / 100), counting from 1. There is no percentile interpolation. A historical band needs at least 120 valid endpoints at that horizon.
ATM IV comes from mark IV at each venue’s own options forward, interpolated between strikes. Constant-maturity IV interpolates total variance (IV² × time) between that venue’s expiries. Spot realized volatility and options-forward implied volatility use different underlying price references and look in different directions in time.
Historical RV windows overlap: these are descriptive observations, not independent confidence intervals or a forecast of future returns. IV above a historical band is not by itself a trading signal.
